Rick Marinick

Boston born Rick Marinick has been a bouncer, martial arts expert, DA’s assistant, as well as a Massachusetts State Trooper. After leaving the state police under honorable conditions he drifted, then began running with a gang from South Boston. His criminal career culminating in convictions for multiple armored car robberies he was sentenced to 18-20 years in state prison.

While incarcerated he took advantage of the educational opportunities offered by the Boston University Prison Education Program, immersing himself in it.  While enrolled in the program he realized his dream of becoming a published author.

After serving  a decade Marinick was released having earned both a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies as well as a Master’s degree in the same discipline but with a focus on creative writing.

As a free man Marinick has worked as a bartender, Local 88 Sandhog, and South Boston Teamster. His first hard hitting, critically acclaimed novel, Boyos, was published in 2004.  Four years later, in 2008, he followed it with second novel, In for a Pound.

From 2006 to 2012 Marinick worked as an educator within the Massachusetts Department of Corrections. Of his work there he says, “I wanted to give back what so many strived to give me when I was ‘down’.”

Marinick currently is both an LADC (licensed alcohol and drug addiction counselor) and CADC (certified alcohol and drug addiction counselor). He now works, on a weekly part-time basis, as an addiction counselor at the Norfolk County House of Correction.

He has recently released his memoir, Resurrection, and is currently deep into writing his third, hard-boiled, Boston-based crime novel.
